Democratic Party has House Floor Sit-in Because they can't Have their Way

I was very disappointed to see the Democratic Party on the floor of the House Chamber to stage a sit-in. The ordeal was streamed and posted to the media, and on social media.

Let's be clear, Democrats were not doing this for civil rights, or because close to 50 people in the LGBT community lost their lives not too long ago. They are using that tragic incident, as well as others, as an excuse to try to disarm American citizens. This is an agenda they have been pushing for a long time. People are only going along with it out of desperation and ignorance. (I will explain later).

“This is nothing more than a publicity stunt. That’s point number one. Point number two is this bill was already defeated in the United States Senate. Number three, we’re not going to take away a citizen’s due process rights. We’re not going to take away a citizen’s constitutional rights without due process."
Those are the words Speaker Ryan, whom I despise, but cannot disagree with in this case.

Four gun proposals were brought before the Senate on Monday. None of them won enough votes. Why is the Democratic party sitting on the House floor to try and force legislation, when they could be compromising and voting on some? Let's start somewhere. They knew their bills would not be passed, as similar ones were previously denied in December. However, isn't it better to have any new gun control bill passed, rather than nothing? Even if we just get a little bit more control, isn't that better than nothing? Apparently our Democratic leaders do not think so. They would rather act like spoiled children than compromise with Republicans. We as American citizens do have time for that!

On Tuesday, Representative David Jolly from Florida introduced a gun control bill that would prohibit people on the FBI’s terrorist watch lists from buying a gun, and allow for due process. If a person were to try to buy a gun, and their name was on the FBI’s terrorist watch list, they would not be allowed to purchase a gun under Jolly's Bill. However, if they are denied they have to be notified within 10 days, and given an opportunity for a due process hearing before a federal judge within 30 days.  Due process is "the principle that an individual cannot be deprived of life, liberty, or property without appropriate legal procedures and safeguards." This is why I say people are going along with the Democrats out of desperation and ignorance. Under no circumstance should we be okay with the federal government taking away a person's rights without allowing due process.

Jolly's Bill (H.R. 5544) was introduced to the House on Tuesday. Dems refused it, and then proceeded to stage a sit-in on Wednesday. Party leaders decided that if they can't have their way by votes; then they will try to force their Bill on everyone by breaking House rules. Since when is that okay? That is not how our government is supposed to work.

The Democratic party is being very undemocratic by trying to force Congress into doing what they want without going the legal route. They are doing this in the same way that they hijacked the election, and in the way that Barack Obama issued an illegal executive order about bathroom access for people who identify as a certain sex. If they keep this up I will no longer identify as a Democrat.
