Wild'n Out with Oscar Wilde

Oscar Wilde was an Irish Poet (google his biography if need more info. on that). One thing that I've come to realize about poets is that we are very unique individuals who are unafraid to share our views with whomever will listen. I have a whole bunch of quotes in my Blackberry notes and I just realized that a lot of them are from Oscar Wilde. For some reason I can relate to what he is saying even though he is a white man, from the 1800s.

Here is his view on slavery:
"The fact is, that civilisation requires slaves. The Greeks were quite right there. Unless there are slaves to do the ugly, horrible, uninteresting work, culture and contemplation become almost impossible. Human slavery is wrong, insecure, and demoralizing. On mechanical slavery, on the slavery of the machine, the future of the world depends." -OSCAR WILDE, The Soul of Man Under Socialism

Here are some other quotes by Oscar Wilde that I really enjoy:
A little sincerity is a dangerous thing, and a great deal of it is absolutely fatal.

A man who does not think for himself does not think at all.

A poet can survive everything but a misprint.

A true friend stabs you in the front.

All that I desire to point out is the general principle that life imitates art far more than art imitates life.

All women become like their mothers. That is their tragedy. No man does. That's his.

Always forgive your enemies - nothing annoys them so much.

Ambition is the germ from which all growth of nobleness proceeds.

Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.

We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.

To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.

I am not young enough to know everything.

Everything in the world is about sex except sex. Sex is about power.

Experience is merely the name men gave to their mistakes.

Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.

To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance.

Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live.

There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.

The only good thing to do with good advice is pass it on; it is never of any use to oneself.

Everything popular is wrong.

The above are only a few quotes by Oscar wilde, but you can definitly google his name and find a lot of quotes and biographies online. I really feel these quotes. It seems like they relate to my time and place in this world.

One of my all time favorite quotes by Oscar is this:
"I was working on the proof of one of my poems all the morning, and took out a comma. In the afternoon I put it back again."

Check this out!
"When Oscar Wilde was asked in an interview to list his 100 favorite books he said he could not. When asked why, he replied, 'Because I have only written five."

Poets are so cool :) ....and that's a completely unbiased statement, lol.
